Respectfully suggest Zimbardo’s Stamford Prison Experiment throws light on this aspect of human behaviour. That purported ‘civilised man’ (including USA and UK) use carnage (advisedly) to ‘improve the world’; to my mind, shows the fault to lie – as Shakespeare said: “in ourselves.”
